Just got back from my second trip with the Irwin saw and Ragged's sheath, both are Awesome!

Just overall more refined, biggest thing would the permanently tensioned webbing. The very first ones had a tendency to snag on the webbing if the tri-glide adjuster wasn't tight. The new one eliminates that issue completely. The new ones also have a removable belt loop. The rest of the improvements were not so much needed as they were nice to have. The material is a bit thicker, .125" vs .090", but there are more weight reducing cut outs to keep it from gaining weight. All the rivets are backed up front and back with stainless washers. Lastly the new webbing system keeps all cut ends of the webbing hidden for a ultra clean look.

There was no thread, I'm certain that would violate the non-commercial nature of this board (something I have no problem with), in fact I don't know how long this thread should/will be around. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mods had to kill it which is totally understandable.

Thanks! Very glad you like them!
As a public service announcement I will say I have about 15 left and when they are gone that will likely be it, at least for this "Cadillac" version. The current unit is simply not cost effective for me to make. I am still considering a VERY stripped down minimalist version but have no timeline in mind for that. With a 2nd kid due In the next month or so I don't see any massive amounts of spare time in my future :)
Anyways just wanted to put that out there. Last year when I did the run of 60 I had told many people that were on the fence that they had nothing to worry about, and that I suspected they would be around for at least 4-5 years. I was a little off on that, they went much faster than I had thought they would.

I am so glad that Ragged decided to make these sheathes. They are top notch and made the way they should be... it would be fun to know the numbers (about 200?) After I made about 10 or so, of the very plain version, I could see that many more would be asking for them, and since it is time consuming, I just kept quiet. Ragged stepped in and bailed me out - thank you! The four that some here contributed to our portage clearing efforts all went on this years trip, and will continue to go in the future.

Where do you live onepaddle??
I have seen them at True Value hardware stores if you have those in your area. I also thought I saw them at Ace Hardware when I was in one of those stores a few weeks ago.
I'd call one of those if they are in your area-you want the Irwin Marathon 15" Pro Touch Coarse Cut Handsaw

Thanks, my Ace did not have them but I do have Fleet Farm in my area and the one in town, while it didn't have the coarse cut, had an Irwin fine cut on the shelves. I have another Fleet Farm about 30 minutes from here though and I'll call over there to see if they have one. Might solve my problem. Of course, if there is a fire ban I'll only need it to clear portages (or perhaps make fire wood for the next lucky folks who stay at our sites after the ban is lifted).

I have purchased 3 of the Irwin saws from Zoro Tools, all of them now adorned with Ragged Sheaths. Good deal right now at $15, but there also seem to always be many coupon codes available to lower that price even more, or to perhaps score some free shipping.

Hey Joel, nice to see you poking around in here! You know, you should really see the new ones, they put the old ones to shame, but they also cost 4 times as much and take 4 times as long to make lol I don't think I have your address anymore but if you want email me with it and I'll make sure one of the new ones finds its way to you for portage clearing trips, on the house of course. Not sure on the number made, somewhere between 160-200. I have lost count because I always buy extra material in case I loose some in the production process so the actual number of finished ones always gets a little blurry . I wish I would have been numbering them this whole time, next time I guess!
quote eOar: "I love mine! Pricey, but worth it!
Congrats on the new addition William!!"
Glad you are liking it Chuck! Thanks for congrats, its a girl, I'm scared!
Pricey!?! lol J/K They are a little steep when you consider what they are made to cover, I can admit that. But using any other metric they are an absolute bargain (I could be a little biased here)

Ragged, it was an absolute pleasure meeting and visiting with you as well. This is without a doubt the finest saw sheath that I shall ever own. It's not inexpensive, but it's most definitely worth every penny that I spent on it. The Irwin saw I can throw away, but this sheath is a work of art. The materials are of the highest quality and you engineered the heck out of this thing! Thanks again!

Ragged's sheaths look superb...if you are like me, and know you likely won't be able to get one from Ragged. Here is a 7 dollar, 10 minute solution in case anyone is interested.
Fits perfect. Could substitute Paracord Zing-It etc. Not exactly a quick draw model, but I just need to transport it without chewing up my pack.
FYI - a file took care of about 1/4 inch of blade that wasn't covered.
The rubber pieces of the guard that normally go in the back of the skate keep it extremely tight... you can fiddle with their placement until you have your right tension.
