You bet! I need the elevation for the same reason. That's how I used to sleep as well. The bean bag was very comfortable, but a bit noisy, with my ear right on the pillow. All the pellets rubbing against each other made a tremendous racket. Wrapping it in a fleece jacket made it more bearable.

Big Agnes sleeping giant pillow. Small, light, packs down tiny. Half memory foam and the bottom is an inflatable chamber so it allows you to adjust the stiffness of the pillow. Highly recommend.

I have always used what ever clothing was dry to roll up as a pillow. My kids gave me a Klymit insulated sleeping pad with pillow for xmas. This will be a new experience for me. Hope it is a good one.

Similar to others, I've always taken an empty fleece pillow case and stuffed it with clothes. However, a buddy of mine has one of those inflatable ones and it looks like the deal. Sea to Summit and Exped appear to make some really nice ones. Might have to pull the trigger on one of those this year.

Do most use them or no? If so, can you recommend a good backpacking size/weight one?
Thanks

I use a NEMO Fillo Backpacking Pillow. Kind of pricy but a good nights sleep is priceless. It has two bungee cords on the back to add jacket or shirt to make it bigger. I would recommend it.

I like the inflatable travel "neck pillow." It weighs next to nothing, takes up very little space, and they're pretty inexpensive.
In the past, I've used a bean-bag style seat cushion on backpacking trips. It's also extremely light, but it doesn't compress at all, so I lashed it to the outside of my pack. My friends used to make fun of me because it looked ridiculous, but I got the last laugh with a comfortable night's sleep.

I use an Exped Air pillow. It fills up easily ( self inflating) and gives me plenty of support.

Used to just roll up extra clothes, several years ago added some small pillows for car camping. Now I pull the pillow and take just the fleece cover, stuff it with cloths. Packs well works well!

I had been using the "cocoon inflateable" with pretty good success. You have go by trial and error to find right amount of air. Last couple trips I have been using a travel size My Pillow. They condense down the size of nalgene bottle. Seems to work.

I stuff my clothes into my sleeping bag's compression sack and the wrap my fleece or shirt around it. One less thing to drag along......multiple use of other items.

First trip, sleeping in a tent, I took an inflatable pillow borrowed from a friend. Worked great, he had made a cotton cover for it, so it was comfy, packed small and light, and fit nicely in the top of the mummy sleeping bag.
Now I sleep in the hammock, and use a Hammock Gear down pillow.
Hammock Gear Pillow
It is small, light, and stuffs in the sack with the quilts (or sleeping bag).
I'm not sure if it gives enough support when sleeping on the ground, but works great for a hammock.

No, I don't use one now. I have one somewhere, but it wasn't really an improvement over clothing, so it was just another thing to carry. It's usually warm enough (I wear a cap anyway) that I'll just roll the sleeping bag hood under my head. Obviously, I'm different :)

No pillow here either. Have never felt the need either in the hammock or on the ground. Sometimes I'll use my jacket or spare clothes in a dry bag when sleeping on the ground but most of the time not.

For the last few years I've been using a small Thermarest pillow. It packs small and gives me just enough elevation and cushioning.

I really like the Nemo Fillo. It is awesome, I also am one who uses my pfd (life jacket) to get more loft if needed or you can stuff a coat or something under it. But the memory foam top and filling the air amount you want is awesome. Helps me snore really loud.

I just use my polar fleece jacket. That way I also know right where it is if it is cold and I need to head up the hill for a few minutes.

No pillow for me.... I'm another one in the just use my extra clothes camp.
I've also put my life jacket under my sleeping pad to help give a little elevation.

I take one of the thermarest compressible foam pillows. Once they puff up, they are pretty comfortable and they are not too heavy.

I use a foldable thermarest. I'm telling you this folds up very small and is good enough that you could use this at night in your bed. Very pleased

Nemo Fillo user. Super pillow.
For 38 years I never brought a pillow. Have become a wus in my older years. Pulled the trigger on a Nemo Pillow for last years solo and glad I did.

I probably have close to a dozen different camping pillows, mostly bought on Amazon Warehouse Deals for cheap, trying to find the most comfortable. The Nemo Fillo is my favorite for both hammock and tent camping, followed by the Sierra Designs Dridown pillow. . Also, the Patagonia Ultralight Down Sweater packs into it's inner pocket to make a very nice down pillow.

I pull the pillow I have on the bed at home and pack it in bag. Base camping and little concern with weight or portage trips within a half day of entry point make that the perfect option for me.

I've got a thermarest pillow (medium I think) Also I bring a pillow case and put it and some clothes in there. I'm going to try some of the ideas here. Thanks!

I have tried man, currently using the Exped
It's the best so far, but still not the greatest. Not sure I will ever find the perfect pillow seeing as how I sleep with 2 pillows at home.
It is on my list at Copia to look for.

I use to use clothes stuffed into a Thermarest bag, but about two years ago we switched to using the Thermarest Pillows, either medium or large I can't remember. They can pack down small and are to me, worth the effort to take them. I stuff mine into the head section of my mummy bag and I am good to go!
