My wife and I did a September trip not long ago. I always make sure she has the best of everything, and I reserve for myself the minimum that I think is necessary. On this trip I took a 20 degree bag, it was way too warm for that, I met Cowdoc and Mocha at the Trail Center and we laughed about it. On the trip it never got below 38, but more than once I was a little cold late at night, and I blamed that bag for being poorly rated. Fast forward, the grandchildren are here for the weekend and I went upstairs to the gear room (AKA my daughter's old bedroom) to get them some bedding. While searching for particular items, I found that 20 degree bag still in the original stuff sack, unused. I have no idea what bag I had, but to the people who have heard me bitch about that 20, I was wrong. That's as simple as I can phrase it.

well, most importantly, you made sure your wife was comfortable! have you figured out what bag you DID have on that trip?

My "gear closet" has also slowly crept its way into becoming a "gear room". It's sacrilege, but I'm thinking about paring down my gear collection, so packing is just simpler. (Like I won't get more stuff once I clear the space :/)

quote Mocha: "well, most importantly, you made sure your wife was comfortable! have you figured out what bag you DID have on that trip?" I think it was a 35 degree Alps, they're roughly the same color and that would be pretty much in line with the comfort zone
