I'm thinking more along the lines of right through the heart of the BWCA...I know the border lakes route is "a thing"...people going from Voyagers all the way to Lake Superior, or parts of that route through the huge border lakes. But I'm thinking more like EP 25/28/30 to EP 49/48/47 (or vice versa). Or something similar. For some reason I'm enamored by the thought of cutting straight across the park rather than a loop...some day. |

Paddle to Moose from Sag... hitch a ride to the DQ in town... get a receipt with time and date and/or mail a postcard (not sure which one most do)... hitch a ride back to the landing and paddle back. Ely Dairy Queen Challenge |

started at seagull lake, trip route: alpine, jasper, kingfisher, ogish (N1), annie, jenny, edddy, SA knife (N2/3), Sema, bunch of little lakes, spoon, pickle, kekekabic, (N4/5), pickle, spoon, dix (N6), Skoota, Missionary, Trader, Vera (N6/7), Ensign (N8), Newfound, Moose. stayed 2 nights in Ely at VNO's posh bunkhouse, ate lots of good food, had a wonderfully relaxing massage at the Pebble Spa and then went across the street to the Ely Steakhouse for dinner. Brittons for breakfast and other stuff. then our ride came to get us and take us back to the gunflint trail. yes, the trip could have been done in less time but we were having fun. it was the first week of OCtober and we got the last campsite on Ogish! wow we were surprised by that, got little sleep due to noise traveling across water..., hightailed it out of there the next day and saw no one until Vera. |

Lake One, east through the numbers to Insula, Kawishiwi River across the bottom of Alice, northeast to Adams, Boulder then acroos Vee, Fee, Hoe toLittle Sag, Gabi, Ogish, - Jasper, Alpine, Seagull. We were lucky enough to have family who dropped us off and picked us up. Great trip - In the middle section we saw very few other groups. - though we did get caught skinny dipping from the island site on Boulder - oops. |
