W&H is closer to Wood than Ely.

I made 3 day trips to Wood Lake in June. The portage off Fernberg Road is in good condition, not too hilly, just a bit long. There is a nice campsite on the south side of the narrows that was always occupied. +1 on bobbernumber3's recommendations. The northwest side has a nice campsite (last one before the portage out of Wood). There are a couple of good campsites on the southern end that you will paddle past. I never checked them out but as I floated past them, they looked roomy with plenty of tent spaces. Watch the wind direction on Wood for walleye haunts. I caught a really nice eye in a small southwestern bay in the early AM trolling a gold/black rapala original floating lure.

You could check Northwind lodge, just down the road from that E.P. , also check out redrock wilderness store is there as well lots of tackle to pick from also good fishing tips too.

I'm going in to Wood Lake on the 22nd.


Not sure what reasonable price is to you, but my wife and I always stay at the Lakeland Motel (next to the Dairy Queen). $80 per night for a simple, knotty pine paneled room. It's not luxury, it's a place to sleep.

I actually lived in the bunkhouses while at college up there. Not bad accommodations for the money!

Williams and Hall is right on Moose Lake. They charge 15 a person for a bunkhouse type room with a shared bathroom down the hall. You should be able to get your own room so your outlay is limited to 30 bucks and you wake up on the lake to start your trip.
