Just got back from a short solo on Wood Lake. Skeeters were bad, particularly early and at dusk, as one would expect. Deer flies were nearly constant, though at times it was like they disappeared for a few hours. All in all, headnet and bug spray required!

They are fully acclimated to all bug dopes and are waiting for you at the EP parking lot!

Going up in 2 weeks and have never been up in August. How are the bugs this time of the year? I have always gone in June and only had to deal with mosquitos, sometimes gnats. Are the flies bad? Ticks? I use Permethrin and Off Deep Woods, but what else should I use for bug repellent? Mainly concerned about the flies. Going in on Brule if that makes any difference.

They should be biting well in August. The baits you mentioned (Deep Woods Off and Permethrin) work well. You should be able to catch your limit easily!

Just got back from Angleworm entry. I wore shorts and a t-shirt the whole time with no problem. The only time the skeeters were bothersome was around dusk. A few deer flies but no worse than at my house. That being said I did run into a few paddlers in the middle day fully decked out in head nets and covered head to toes.
