Oh yeah, by the way, at the north end of the Kelly to Jack portage there is a short trail through the woods that will bring you to an old abandoned gold mine. You can go in it for a little ways before the shaft sinks down into the ground and is filled with water. Kinda cool to see though and there are lots of artifacts lying around in the woods.

Hello,

Just a quick question. I am going to be going into a new area this year. Initially thinking about heading north for Temperance, but might go east or west though. Avoiding Brule, where would I want to be if I was looking for Northern/Walleye?

Thanks for the replies.

Kelly and Jack lakes are good walleye lakes in their own right. South Temperance is also a good all around fishing lake. I think that you will find northern almost everywhere.

South Temperance is also one of the prettiest lakes in the BWCA (IMO) and has some very nice campsites. This whole area is known for moose sightings so keep your eyes open. You will also most likely enjoy the long river like stretches of paddling on this route and you will see a few(thousand) lilypads. Great area.
