I've camped on Smoke but not Flame or Burnt. My then 7yo daughter and I stayed at the Northeastern site on Smoke. Nice campsite with a decent view of the sunset. It would be a nice Sept. site as it is protected from the wind but yet it has a lot of open space in the campsite itself. The eastern site near the portage to Burnt looked really nice and would give you a great view of the sunset. We didn't catch any fish from shore but did catch walleye around the pacman shaped island straight west of our campsite.

I've been to Kelso on a daytrip and the southern site there looked like it would be good for sunset viewing. I don't think we went all the way up to the northern site.

Planning to spend a few days on either Smoke or Burnt lake in the middle of September. Looking for a campsite with the best view of the sunset. Shore fishing would be a bonus.

How is the site on Flame lake? This is my wife's first trip and I haven't been back since the Root Beer Lady. After staying here for a few days, we plan to cross Sawbill and go up the Kelso river for another couple nights. Same questions as to sunsets and fishing.
