quote carmike: "Try Brule. No portaging at all, with some nice daytrip options north, west, and east, for pretty much everything that swims.

If you could make it to Insula and don't mind a "burn area," that would work well, too.

Or head to Knife via Moose.

There's a very good recent thread about a man and his elderly father looking for a trip with much the same qualities that you are. I'd check that one out (I'd link to it, but I don't know how).
"

Going in mid October. Im bringing my Snowtrekker hot tent and stove. Those 2 items weigh 35lbs so this will not be a portage heavy trip.

It will be the first time using my ST so im excited to use it and have never hot tented before. Im looking forward to be able to dry out gear and the fact it can keep us warm is an added bonus.

Looking for places to basecamp that can be reached in 1 day of paddling . Its unfortunately only gonna be a 4 day trip. We want to focus on fishing and relaxing vs a longer trip with more portaging.

Obviously the lower campsite on Basswood Falls would be ideal but im looking for other options as that spot is always taken. It doesnt need to be a loop. It can be same way in/out.

Thank you in advance.
