I've got the Nemo 9X 9 and love it. Lots of room in here and a quality product. Your wife will appreciate all the space.

Don't forget the tent at night, Take a "bug Whacker" available in multiple stores for under $15.00. Shaped like a badminton swatter, it is the best method by far for eliminating bugs within your tent. Keep it dry as in its own plastic bag and use fresh batteries. When using, bring it up from under your mosquitoes to hear a most satisfying sound as the bug hits your whacker. A side benefit is a tent with out bug squashes where you smash bugs by hand. Oh: One for each tent for obvious reasons.

Another user of the Nemo Bug Out tarp. Works great. Easy to set up. Works great for mosquitos and gnats and other no see-ums.
Another lighter weight option is a Sea to Summit rectangular mosquito net and string it up under a regular tarp.

My wife bought me a 9x9 Bugout a couple of years ago. The first time or two out we didn't much need it, but last year in the middle of June we were very happy to have it. We were stuck in camp several days due to weather and spent most of our time in it. I know if I were taking my wife on her first trip and wanted her to want to go back I'd sure take it.

+1. Also a fan of the Nemo, we also hang hammocks under it and use it instead of a tent. We had ours set up during the bad storm in July 2016 and it came through like a champ.

Traveling into the BW in late June. 5 day loop. Would it be smart to pack a lightweight screen tent to combat bugs while sitting around camp? or suck it up? It will be my wife's first trip. Trying to make it most enjoyable so she will want to return. Thoughts?

As a manager of an outfitter in the BWCA this question comes up a ton! If you can find a lightweight bug net that ties up between trees and you do not have to lug around poles I would recommend it. Considering you are bringing a first timer you want them to remember their experience as enjoyable - bugs sure can get annoying. Also, head nets are a life saver!

Get yourself a Nemo Bugout 9 x 9. Wait until they go on sale. You should be able to find one for around $150.00. I found one for $113.00 a few months back.

I also used this bug net under a tarp in early June last year. Worked great. We only needed it in the evenings but it was great to play cards under as the lights really attracted the bugs. We fit four people in Helinox chairs under it with a small folding table in between. Mornings and afternoons the bugs were very manageable with a little bug spray and often didn’t need anything. All our outer clothes, tents and packs had an application of permethrin sprayed on before the trip which I highly recommend as well.

I use Susie Bug Net. I believe you can get it at Cooke Custom Sewing or Piragis. It is around $30 I believe. I used it last two years. It is good quality and is big enough to go over two chairs if they are close together. It came with nice stuff sack.

Can anyone who owns a NEMO Bugout tell us whether the tarp portion is square or has catenary curve/parabolic-shaped edges? like a Kelty Noah, for example.

I had the same thought but I bought a mosquito canopy for a king size bed off of ebay. I haven't put it to practice yet, so I don't know if there are any issues.

Many years ago, I used to bring a screen tent minus the poles. Just string it up. Now I mostly solo, but during buggy times I still bring a bug net - the kind meant to go over a cot.
