Consider taking a trip to the south or north arms of Knife Lake. It can have really great four species fishing and has a variety of good campsites. It’s onlg a half day’s paddle or so if you get the tow to Birch Lake. You can set up a base camp from there and fish to your heart’s content. For what it’s worth, the south arm is much busier than the north arm.

We're really thinking about it now. Is it busy during this time of the year. Also when do you find it to be most productive.

Hi everyone,

It's that time of the year again. This will be our third year in the bwca, and were looking for suggestions. The 1st year we went to basswood, last year it was the number lakes. Does anyone have a suggestion, we don't explore as much and the trip we would mostly be fishing. We talked about Gabbro, but I read that you can hear the mining and hear it often.

Assuming you are looking for something equivalent to your last two trips, I would say Ensign Lake from EP 25.

The noise on Gabbro was some preliminary core sample test drilling, and that may be done for now. When my wife and I based on Gabbro for three nights last July (same site as in the past), we heard no sounds like the annoying banging I had experienced before.

Not trying to answer for cburton but Knife is a good suggestion and I've gone there from Moose Lake and Snowbank, including one where I entered Moose and exited Snowbank (and used the portage form Snowbank to Moose). Both of those can get rough in wind so early - or late in day as I have done - is probably advised. Some will recommend tows but I go to paddle and camp so don't.

I don't know how long you are in the park but up Moose and along border to Knife, and back through Kek, Ima, Disappointment was a nice route - which is where I did the Snowbank to Moose portage. Or after Knife back through Ensign - by way of Vera is a tough portage I'm told - and then Moose or Snowbank.

Thank you for the input. We're going out there for 5 days 4 nights. I think one day I'll turn that into a 7 - 9 days trip and enjoy it. Right now the guys are looking to a quick way to Knife and out. We're going to paddle one day and base camp, and fish, and paddle out the last day, if weather permits it. How is the weather on Knife in early June?
