thanks, yes i know the nature of the big water. there is something about the shear size that takes me there. been to north bay many times. basswood has such life about her.
looking at mudro to crooked thru gun as well, never been to crooked that way.
going to be a canoe travel kind of year :)

indiana is very clear and nice to see, but maybe thats just what I like. I really like the campsite at the narrows on Good lake also.
If you want to try a little easy bushwack to see something visited less often, try washte and witness lake. There were a couple dead falls along the portage but it was easy to find and walk down. I didn't catch anything but the dnr report for witness had me intrigued. Washte was a very interesting color (limestone lake?).
I know its not what you asked for but I have never been that far north on basswood, good luck on your trip have fun!

hello all. i am taking a solo in may. i am thinking of going thru wind, and rounding U.S. point, taking my time, enjoying a campsite, viewing basswood, from a campsite, north of the motor zone, just some quiet r and r with a good book.
i know it is not a huge distance to travel, but seeing that massive lake excites me.
there is something about viewing a large expanse of water from a camp site, or canoe.
for those of you who have done this, share your thought's, thanks.

I have done what you described on Saganaga. I have seen this Lake many times as smooth as glass. I have also had to navigate crossing it in heavy fog. You will need a compass and a good Topo map or a GPS to try this. I have also been wind locked for a couple of days. If you try this you will want to tell your family or friends not to worry if you are not out on a certain day. On large lakes the weather determines your travel.

I have gone through wind en route to wind bay(??) on Basswood and stayed at that little island campsite. That big shallow bay looks like it should be pike heaven in May. The little run up to Indiana is also rather nice and could reconnect you back to Basswood up and over a bit of a ridge. The 2 campsites on Indiana are only 2, maybe 3 star but if the weather is gnarly the little lake is nicely protected. Bass and some panfish along with pike are the fishing draw.

I have not traveled through Wind, although I would like to do that, but I have been on both sides of US Point and on both sides of the border in that area. You should enjoy it. I, too, enjoy large lakes; you just have to time your travel to take advantage of calmer conditions.
