I've waited til the last few days to purchase maps, but after reading various posts, I plan on buying McKenzie maps, and I was curious which ones I will need to cover EP 16, up to LLC and back thru GeBe and Oyster?

Thanks

I don't know, but an outfitter will have maps and will know.

Probably 12 and 13. Do check out their web site. That will cover from Echo trail to CA slde if LLC, from east of Stuart to near Loon. The web sitev is my usual place to buy their maps. They have a pretty good index.

IowaFishinGuy: "Ok, thanks everyone. I am renting a canoe and some gear from VNO, so I will ask them what they will have for a map for my trip, and see if I need anything else besides that. I was looking at McKenzie's website and unless I wasn't looking correctly, I had a hard time telling exactly what each map covered. The thumbnail image was blurry and I didn't know if it had everything I needed."
I got my #113 at VNO. Is this McKenzie map key image any clearer? (Although it still doesn't include the 113 outline.)

Good suggestions, but also check map #113. Vertically oriented, it may have your entire trip on one map. Seems to me it was only available at outfitters at first, but demand for it has meant that they can be found in some of the usual retail locations, also.

You could click on thumbnail for high res version.

I'm sure VNO will have what you need and help. Nothing like looking at the maps to see if they ho far enough.

I probably carry too many. Besides what I think I'll need, I usually carry the adjacent maps all around. Plus in addition to Mackenzie also Fisher.

A couple things to consider:

1. If your trip is anywhere near the edge of a map page, get the adjoining map. You never know if an emergency will require you to take a different route. This also allows you to deviate, if even for a day trip, and know where you are.

2. Slightly OT, but.... always orient your map. In other words, if you're going south, have the map "upside down" so you can spot terrain features, islands, etc., and know where you are.

3. Always, always, always know where you are.

I'm a map guy. I cannot tell you how many people I've run across over the last 40 years who have a map and have no idea where they are. I've even encountered people who were off the map sheet.

No disrespect intended in the above if you're a good map reader.

Go to Caltopo and print off your own. You will have to fill in where campsites are, but they have nifty markers you can play around with. You can print off any area you like with the 7.5' overlay? And gives you depths of most lakes. Laminate and you are done. I then usually use a hole punch and punch the corner of each one, so I can have them all together with a key ring, or caribeaner?. Be careful not to punch too close to the map, or water will leak in and ruin it.
