In September our crew of seven will be entering at Sawbill and travel to Cherokee then to S. Temperence and finally to Burnt and out to Sawbill in 7 days. It shouldn't be that difficult. The crew will be comprised of three fathers and their sons. It should be a great trip since it's been about twenty years since the sons have been to BWCAW.

We usually take our annual BWCA trip in August, but I’ve always wanted to go a little later for fewer bugs, fewer crowds, and cooler weather. Now that the spouse has finally retired, this year we can go in September. We prefer to base camp and do day trips for very casual fishing. And, as we are older (and now wiser??) we don’t want to go crazy portaging. I’m looking for suggestions for a 6-day, 5-night trip. Any other considerations for a late season trip?

ParkerMag makes a good suggestion; it's quite easy to get to the Horseshoe/Gaskin area and there are many day trip options from there.

Gaskin from Poplar?? Beautiful area, few/easy portages, quite a few nice lakes nearby.
