I am looking ahead to my second trip next year. We want to try heading out Fall Lake on an overnight motor permit. Our thought was to get to the end of the motor zone and then canoe beyond while the less adventurous use the boat to fish and explore.

Can I tow a rented canoe with an owned or rented boat?

Also, I think that overnight motor permits are on a first come first served basis just like regular overnight paddle permits. Is this correct?

Lastly, having only departed out of Fall Lake should I look at Moose, Snowbank or Seagull, Saganaga on the East side? Most in our group would be fishing and my self and another would prefer to explore with a little fishing.

Don't forget the Trout Lake option. Public landing on Lake Vermilion, four wheeler portage into Trout in the BW. Trout has motors but there are several paddle only lakes right off Trout. It does not get much easier and would fit your need for both boat folks and paddle people.
