would do it again, fun to meet new peeps. What did my family think? My Mom passed a few years ago. When she was alive I did a few solo trips, she did NOT like that. Not sure if she would like this one more or less but I think she was responsible for all the good luck and amazing adventure we had. |

Glad you found a good paddlin partner even if for a trip. Keep on going, for some of us it ends way to soon. Some of my favorite paddling friends have been female. It’s hard to get people excited about a trip many times. But the gals that do go are a lot of fun and don’t quit on ya. I’m sure many a boat and many float planes landed at that campsite in the day... I’ll bet it was a popular spot before they banned boats and stuff there. |

OregonDave: "Savage Voyageur: "A few Sketchy folks here? " Perhaps I should clarify the sketchy folks comment. I had a total of five or six people respond to my search for a trip partner, most of them were men. The comment I received more than any were what were my real intentions and am I really looking for a trip partner or more? Also that they would be interested in a trip partner, but not me because I'm female. My immediate thought? If you're not interested in me because of my gender, then why on Earth are you responding in the first place? Also, the men that thought I was looking for more than a trip partner? Come on, I'm a responsible adult and BWCA.com isn't a dating site. Granted, probably would find better folks on this site than dating sites. lol Then I found a gentleman who I thought I found a good friend in who ended up being a bit of an odd duck. Glad I found that one out before meeting up. Anywho, that's explains sketchy folks. |

I must admit I would love to meet new people and try complete strangers again someday. I've met lots of amazing people up there generally on my solo trips. My spring trip this year, I'm taking a group of people who have never gone before, but have always wanted to go. It's quite a motley crew and should be fun. I had a permanent canoe partner for 15 years, but then he was downsized. Okay, he was a jerk so I had to let him go. I also must admit when the guys on this site made comments about not wanting to go with a female, it made me laugh. Background info, I'm a firefighter and am used to working and depending on men without throwing my sexy self at them so the comment was quite entertaining to me. Here's to new adventures and canoe partners. Oh... and total strangers. SCFNLFPP |

nooneuno: "There are a few sketchy characters around here, and the rest are just plain nuts....." Kinda like a woman's chance of finding a boyfriend in Alaska. The odds are good, but the goods are odd. ;-) |

SCF - Single Canoeing Female SCM - Single Canoeing Male SCFNLFPP - Single Canoeing Female Not Looking For Permanent Partner SCF seeking SCF for base camping trip to Moose lake, ... Probably not :-) I have done two trips with others on this board that I have never met. One was 4 guys all who had never met. I have tripped two times since with one of the guys. Last year, I joined a group of three guys looking for a forth and it was a great trip. I have stayed in contact with two of the guys discussing equipment that we each had, ... It's a great way to see how others trip and gather ideas. May do a trip again this year. It's been nice to meet others and I now have a growing group of people I can call if I want others to go with. After buying a solo boat, I much prefer to paddle solo. It eliminates a number of issues if you are in your own boat with your own gear. You are very courageous to reach out. I have had a couple of gals interested in going, so I will keep you in mind if I have a lady who wants to trip and we need a second SCF :-) |

I've been fortunate over the many years to go with friends and/or family every trip I've taken so I haven't had to look for someone. And being a guy, I can't imagine doing that as a female. I can hear your family now... "You met this person ON THE INTERNET???" "You're going with this person INTO THE WILDERNESS???" "What if they're a serial killer???" There have been dozens and dozens of people from this bulletinboard who have connected and had great times on their trips. In some cases, they never met each other until they got to the rendezvous point. I'd venture to guess that in many cases, these folks have become lifelong friends. Canoeing folks are pretty good folks. Thanks for being part of this community. Hope to see you at a gathering sometime in the future. |

I didn't know you were a firefighter. Curious, are you a structural firefighter? I was on a volunteer dept and recently retired after 30 years as a full time wildland firefighter. (I still do wildfires on an emergency basis, just not 40+ hours a week). I always liked women on my crews, they kept the guys in check and those women were/are tough as nails. I am pretty much a solo paddler, but I gave some thought to respoding to your post last year. Keep me in mind if you want a paddling partner for a day or two in the future. Despite what some who know me on this board may say, I'm (mostly) not sketchy :-) and am happily married, so not looking for a SCF. If nothing else, give me a shout next time you are coming through Duluth. I'll buy you a drink, always fun to chew the fat with firefighters. Pic of Elsa on one of my solo trips, sporting her missing eye. |

WhiteWolf: "You seem like "Kruger Challenge" material. You might want to contact BeaV or me for next year's challenge. We are always looking for newbies to this challenge, for how many can say they CANOE from I-Falls to Lake Superior in less than 120 hrs??? " campNgirl-you might consider this Challenge option, either as a solo paddler or linking up with other women who are forming a team. Contact me if you are interested - I do the coordinating for this event and I am very interested in women participating. |

Well......the trip was phenomenal, it was as if someone were watching over us. Near/possible disasters? They all missed us. While my newly met canoe partner and I didn't end up meshing as well as I had hoped, I give her kudos for giving it a shot. Looking back at the whole thing, I wouldn't trade the experience. As for my trip partner from NY? Frankly, she showed the true adventurer spirit that I wish on all of us. Just wanted to share and encourage others to be brave and adventurous. |

I have met and tripped with lots of folks from this forum. The meet ups at Wing Nights and upcoming Copia are great places to connect and reconnect. Looking forward to March. :-) |
