Moose Entry will get you quite a ways with no portage.

Looking to take my new to me fishing kayak up for a quick little solo. Probably only 3 days. At about 80 pounds I’m looking for some paddle only route suggestions. Fishing will be the main focus primarily for smallies.

If you are looking at the end of the Gunflint Trail, I might recommend Sea Gull Lake. Lots of good sites that you can base camp at with a lot of bays for smallies. Plus, only the east side Threemile Island allows for motor travel, so as long as your on the west side of the lake, you will probably not hear a motor boat.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did a trip on Seagull about 30 years ago and loved it! I tend to stick to the Ely side now but I may look into Gunflint area.

I know motors are allowed in that area. Do you know how until paddle only?
"
