You are going to my favorite area. You have lots of options of places to go. |

Plenty of other water nearby to explore on daytrips but not sure about a lot of walleye. Horseshoe can be good for eyes and smallies and is a cool and unique lake known for moose sightings. Gaskin is a bigger lake with some nice sites and decent walleye potential. You could aim for Vista and have some other options if it doesn't pan out. The other idea is Meeds Lake. One long portage from Poplar and you are there so it wouldn't be a long trek. But it is a great fishing lake with walleyes,, but really known as a smallmouth haven. You would have to get your canoeing hours in on daytrips. But you would like the fishing. |

Caribou is good fishing but it's only an hour to get there and it's busy. I camped there with my then 7yo daughter. Walleye and smallies. Horseshoe is a great lake. Good for moose sightings. Decent walleye fishing. I have camped there on 2 different trips. Also can be busy. Meeds has a good rep for smallie fishing and less busy than others around it. I've only passed through. Pilsbury is a nice "sleeper" lake in the area. Only 2 sites and one is really bad so if you get the good one you can have the lake to yourself. We enjoyed 3 days w/ only seeing 1 other group pass through and some great smallie fishing. Also caught some walleye. I have only passed through Vista and would like to camp there sometime. Omega is my favorite lake..... small and skinny and the few campsites are spread out. Not a fishing destination though. |

quote : "Have you thought about Quetico from the east side, Cache Bay? It's big water to start but after that Sagonagons have great walleye fishing without the crowds you see in the BW. Anything after Silver Falls is great for walleye. Cache bay has some good lake trout. A little more expensive but worth the problem to find a camp site that is hard to find in the BW at certain times. I can give you more info if you want."W Would love any more info you would care to give. Thanks |

quote dbpmw3: "Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Looks like this might be our spot. Any thoughts on Omega? Someone once mentioned it might be a good spot?" I would fish Gaskin, Caribou and Meeds before Omega. Not a great lake. |

Fishing was good, mostly walleyes and a few smallmouth. On our exit we went through horseshoe and almost all the sites were taken. Many more people on the lakes through that entry. |
