I agree. Britons early breakfast. Ely Steakhouse and Sir G's Italian and pizza.

So......how long is the line at Britons if everybody goes there??

General consensus has been Britons for breakfast. Many alternatives for lunch or dinner

For breakfast I would suggest Britons, and for a dinner I would say the Ely Steakhouse.

Kind of an overwhelming poll on Britons for breakfast. Steakhouse is a good dinner choice but there are others. I've enjoyed Insula, Chocolate Moose, Rockwood, Boathouse, and SirGs. But if only one non-breakfast meal in Ely, just about has to be Ely Steakhouse.

Taste of Ely is good and quick. Not sure how early they open though.

We generally opt for grab and go breakfast to eat on the drive to the EP. A big meal of greasy spoon breakfast like Britton's makes for a sluggish travel day,

I liked taste of Ely the couple of times I ate there but they now don't open till 7:00 and close at 3:00 - not real paddler friendly hours.

Brittons is a no brainer. Opens early and good food and now coffee. And your on the water in good time. Never had to wait. I'm an omelette guy there... I generally don't eat a lot on my way there... 100 miles... and find it a good tradition. But some trips I'll forgo even that if I want to beat a windy day. But when I do, I find myself pulling over and eating not too far down the pike anyway. Ely steak house is good too on the way out. But quicker to just do dairy Queen for me. Two hours and I'm home anyway.

:) actually I've never eaten there in the morning before a trip so I've never been there at 5:00am. I'm in the eat something light on the way to the e.p. crowd. I have eaten there when we've been in Ely other times and when I've exited the bwca in the morning and wanted a big breakfast before driving home. The food is very good!

We usually pick up something we can eat on our way to the entry point for breakfast. Upon exit I will eat just about anywhere that serves decent beer.

Britons opens early: 5:00 AM seasonal hours and allows for a good early departure. You will get large amounts of food and a snack for the AM paddle will not likely be needed if you can eat all you order. They are a block to the right of the main drag more or less just as you enter the business part of town.

This might seem off for trip planning , but looking for suggestions on pre launch breakfast in Ely and maybe a good dinner spot on way out heading south or in Ely. Nothing fancy but somewhere to catch a bite.

Breakfast in the car on the way to the landing. - got to get going early you know. I have trouble with the Steak House - too much musty old smoke smell - they need to remodel.
Try Insula or Stony Ridge. the Boat House was great the last time we were there with craft beers and good food.

Oh another thing that I just found out not so long ago is that the Ely Grand Lodge serves the panini sandwiches that the old Northern Grounds shop used to sell. Get one of them with their wild ride soup. You won't regret it.

These 2 would get my vote as well. We always get an early breakfast at Britton's and grab burgers at the steakhouse on the way out.

Britton's for breakfast for sure. I agree that the Ely Steakhouse is a good reliable choice. I also like Insula if your a little more adventurous or the Boathouse if your thinking more along the line of sandwiches.
