Nice video! Last week we came down the Wawiag to Kawnipi. I fell head first into the river trying to get out at the portage. I got on shore and was trying to reach my canoe while on my hands and knees when my hand slipped off the edge. We had 19 miles of river to Kawnipi but with the current it was a pleasant paddle. I was surprised at how deep the river is.

Real nice video. That first camp was really a great site. And Murdoch.... yeah, I'll 2nd what you said about it. I was there in '92. I really need to go in late May. Sept. fishing just can't compare to what you guys did. Great trip! And the loon at the very end was very cool.

Great to see--we are still fantasizing about a fly-in to Kawnipi, but love that neck of the woods and have been to Lemay a couple times. Did you portage out of Lemay via the creek or the backdoor to the west?

Thanks for sharing the video. Great to see how others camp. Everyone has their own style.
I am taking that same Clay Lake entry Aug 10. Hope the water is still high. Can't say I am disappointed in recent reports of rain. Very happy to hear you report the log jams have cleared.
So we are flyin into Clay approx 3PM. I am considering heading right out thru Greenwood Creek and pushing thru that evening towards Kawnipi. How was the Greenwood Creek/ Waiwiag River trek? We are exiting thru LacLaCrioix and would love to get a jump on things.
Maps show a portage on some rapids on the Waiwiag with a camp spot a few miles up from Kawnipi. Any opinion on this spot?
Thanks for the input.

We looked at the campsite and said it would be fine for a one night and go. The landing on the upstream end is a little tricky. Just get out in waist deep water and unload your canoe and shove your canoe out of the water before crawling out yourself. I measure the river to the camp site as about 8 miles and the creek about 4 miles. At 2 MPH that would be about 6 hours of paddling. That would get you to the rapids well after dark.

Sitting in my living room, watching football, looking outside to light snow falling. The Chickadees are at the feeder eating sunflower seeds.
I just finished the video, thinking of warmer days and dreaming of seeing Quetico again sometime soon.....
