TomT: "Yep, Voyageur North outfitters emailed me that it should be in place for a good while. Good to know so I can pack more fuel and leave the wood splitter (hatchet) home.

"

Very true. I haven't had any measurable rain at my house north of Two Harbors since 8 August. The woods and soil are DRY. The half inch of rain predicted over the weekend won't do anything to reduce the fire risk in canoe country.

I've always been pleased with the customer service from the Quetico rangers.

At 8AM today-Be advised, Quetico is currently in a Restricted Fire Zone due to high forest fire danger.

Please do not have campfires (even in a fire pit with a grate) or use charcoal BBQs at this time. Please use portable liquid or gas stoves instead when cooking.

Again... Was there in late May and there was a fire ban. Am going back in late September and will be there is another one. Read there are currently 506 fires burning in BC. There is a problem...

Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool. Seagull Outfitters also called to alert me on the same day — they’re my tow on Sunday. Pretty happy to have been able to have had an early alert.

Quetico office called me today to advise me of the current fire ban and to bring more fuel if we had planned on using a campfire to cook. They said there are currently 8 fires in the park.

I received a call from Seagull Outfitters also. I'm going out Sunday morning. I always cook with burners but appreciate the call.

Old Grey Goose,

Thanks for posting current fire ban info. I am heading into Quetico next Thursday and will not be too far from the camping closure area in your post.
