Several years ago our group of four split up for the day. About four hours from our camp on Robinson two of us heard a chainsaw. Figured it was a ranger so hustled across a portage just to chat. Talked for a bit and they were about to paddle off when they asked for our permit. We had a copy of it which was fine.
You would think I would know if they routinely give two copies but for the life of me I can’t remember. The permit goes in a ziplock bag at the bottom of the day pack. But I picture both a blue copy and a pink one. So splitting up is fine.

I see you didn’t get an answer. I’d email or call the park superindent Trevor Gibb or their general contact.

I’ve always gone in a single canoe so never had to worry about it.

My understanding is separate camp, separate permit. Day trips I've never worried about being away from the permit, as long as all members of the party and the permit are united at the end of the day I think they will let it pass.

Hmmm....never really thought about that in the Q. Split up plenty of times for fishing, day tripping, etc. Guess IF you could find a ranger in the park interior, they'd just follow you back to camp and eventually find the trip leader/paperwork. If they were worried about that, I suppose they'd give you multiple copies like the BW. Always camp together unless on separate permits - but then that answers all the questions.

So, south of the border, splitting up for the day is fine as I understand it...each party carries a copy of the permit. Camp in the same place each night.
How's that work in the Q? Ask the ranger station to provide a second copy, and otherwise the same?

Second question: In the BWCA, if a group camps together one or more nights but also splits up for one or more overnights, they must operate on separate permits.
Same in the Q?
