timatkn: "going non lead is recommended but is not a regulation for Quetico. It shouldn't be confusing. You have state parks and national parks. Canada has national parks and provincial parks. Pretty straightforward. And helpfully, either "National" or "Provincial" is identified in the name of every park. Speaking of park names, none of them is preceded by the article "The". Sorry for the rant, Tim. It's just cringeworthy when I hear it. Calling it The Quetico would be like saying The Yosemite, The Yellowstone or The Algonquin. |

This is the special regs attachment for The Quetico otherwise you follow the regs for Zone 5 Quetico Provincial Park • Only artificial lures may be used • Only barbless hooks may be used Per Minnesotian's post Quetico is a Provincial Park not a Canadian National Park. It can be confusing. T |

mapsguy1955: "Why use lead anyway? If you can afford to canoe in Quetico, you can afford to spend a couple extra dollars on non-lead terminal tackle. It just makes sense. Part of canoe tripping is LNT. Lead doesn't quite fit into that equation. " Spot on |

Argo: "timatkn: "going non lead is recommended but is not a regulation for Quetico. The Quetico…I’ve always been pretentious…sort of like The Ohio State :) I get your rant…it’s okay. T |

"Lead Sinkers and Jigs – It is illegal to use or possess lead fishing sinkers or jigs in Canada’s National Parks and National Wildlife Areas." Source: https://files.ontario.ca/ndmnrf-2022-fishing-regulations-summary-en-2021-12-13.pdf Since Quetico is a Provincial Park, and not a National Park nor a National Wildlife Area, lead sinkers and jigs, from my understanding, are technically not banned there, but like you have encountered, recommended not to use. Call the Quetico Park information line at 807-597-2735 if you want their answer. |
