I think it is on the south shore. Just hug the shore line when you come in from Jean.

Good Northern fishing in the shallow bays during the day and good walleye fishing on structure in the evening.

The portage out was much easier but long. We kicked up a lot of grouse but that was several years ago.

Have a great trip!

I did this last year in early June. The creek from Jean to the No Nmae lake is navigable and probably would with this year's water level. The stream from there to a small no name lake before you get to Red Pine was just passable in June. By passable I mean there were 5 beaver dams to climb over. I suspect by late June it would be impassable or require some dragging. There is then a 50 yard portage to the no name lake (or pond) and then about a 200 yard portage to Red Pine.

Having got there I struggled down the lake into a really strong west wind and had trouble fishing. I manged to paddle about three quarters of the way down the lake and then get back to Jean in plenty of time for dinner.

Miami!: I found some old stuff on the QJ forum from 2007-10 . . . may be able to paddle the creek SW of Ivy Island from Jean to no-name instead of portage. Then portage from no-name to non-name was described as "swamp city." N-n to Red Pine was "routine." Red Pine to Pelee is nicknamed the "Red Pine Boulevard" portage (beware of those with clever names!) and was described as long, flat, little-used (maybe having to follow game trails at times) and had 50-100 meter floating bogs at each end. Pelee-Badwater is a "lift-over" or maybe just paddle-through. Sounds like a fun area. --Goose

I went to Red Pine a couple years ago with my daughter. We have both been on a lot of trips. This is a good challenge. You will have to get out of your canoe and pull it over floating bogs and you will get very muddy. We enjoyed Red Pine. Camped there two nights. The site was good and so was the fishing.

Where on Redpine is the campsite? We will probably make a day trip into Redpine. Entering at Beaverhouse next Sat. AM.

Miami1: Warning -- dated info! In 1997 I saw a blaze on a tree on Jean, and investigated. I took one rod and some tackle and hiked the 430m. (Chrismar) portage to the first no-name lake. Trail was faint but easy to follow with little change in elevation and showed NO signs of recent use. The cove at the no-name end was full of beachball-size boulders. At the end, I fished from shore, and on my last (just one more) cast, caught a 19" SMB --a beauty. I wrote in my notes that I would not have wanted to portage the canoe and packs, but that was me, not you. I sure hope someone has more current info for you. Good luck! --Goose

Miami1, now you've done it -- got me looking at Google Earth. The creek from Jean sure looks passable to the first no-name; the creek between the first and the second one, not so much. Looks like IF you can get to the west side of the second no-name, Red Pine is only about 200 meters through woods. Of course, you could get there and find out beavers have made a mess of things -- or made it easier. Never know, and it's fun finding out. (I may be camped on BH on your entry day, heading out next day.) --Goose

Oh. Something I can actually help someone on. Very dated info. but I got to Red Pine from Jean. So long ago I don't remember much. I remember paddleing/poling down a couple creeks and then a couple of smallish portages almost like lift overs. I know it could not have been too tough otherwise my group would not have done it. We went in to Red Pine and fished for awhile and then left. It was very windy so it was tough to fish. We caught only one northern but the lake looked to be pike habitat.

OGG, I will be sure and give you a wave. Hope to be on Beaverhouse around 0800. We will probably camp somewhere on the southern arm of Quetico lake for our first night. Have a great time. Anthony
