The view from Gardners Mountain on Robinson Lake is a good one. You have to make your own trail up there, but it's not too bad.

Heyo, I am planning a trip to Quetico next year. I really enjoy being able to see the countryside from scenic overlooks. What are some of the best in Quetico? Thanks.

Also good vistas on Ted from the higher islands.

" Is this shot taken from the campsite across the bay from the picto cliffs?

quote Banksiana: "Second the Ted vista from the picto cliffs. Also good vistas nearby on Hurn and Milt (both the towering near island and on the cliffs near the portage from Ted). " I was on Ted again this summer, twice, and both times I wondered aloud if anyone ever climbed up to the top of the cliffs to get a good view of the lake. Guess I have my answer!

The tower was climbable in 2011 although my son and his friend Andy Long (who took these photos) said the platform at the top was rotten so they stopped just below it.

Fire towers are my favorite. Wish the BWCA had kept all theirs.
Thanks for all the information. This was exactly was I was hoping for.

The fire tower on Kash is about 100 feet tall, and the ladder doesn't start until about 20 feet up. You have to clamor along steel beams not meant for purpose to get to it.
The platform on top is a wooden hexagon no more than 6' wide, and getting onto it from the ladder is dicey. The wood was already starting to fall apart when we were there in 2005.
Here is a picture of two people from our group sitting on that platform, looking down. You couldn't fit more than 2 on there anyway, and even that was frightening. I didn't even go up.

Are you still able to climb the fire tower on Kash? I thought it had been rendered "un-climbable"----although that must not be a word.

If you have the courage, go to Kahshapiwi, climb the old fire tower - best views in the park. But it is a rickety climb.
Agnes has some really nice cliffs too.

There are countless overlooks in Quetico. Some of the better ones are along, Kahshapiwi, Sark, Keefer, Agnes, Kawnipi, Sarah, Robinson, and Cirrus Lakes.

Ted Lake--beautiful climb to the top of the pictograph cliff. There is a cliff-top campsite on Suzanette and campsites up high on hills or islands on Isabella, Yum Yum, McNiece and Kahshahpiwi with great views. There's a nice climb to a high view of McIntyre Lake on the mainland near the island campsite also.

I would love to explore the cliffs of Hurn. Here's a shot dated 5/31/2006 from the top of the tallest hill on McIntyre Lake, midway on the west side, just NW of the 5-star island.

I second the Yum Yum portage overlook. It's actually much closer to Yum Yum than to Kahsh. You look over a beautiful bog, it's one of my favorite places.

" Now THAT is an overview! How I wish we had taken the time to climb that tower the one time we were on Kahshahpiwi.

A few years ago, I had to back out of a trip to Brent, Ted and the lakes in that area. I really want to get there someday.

View from the Kahshahpiwi fire tower in September 2011. The haze to the south was the Pagami Creek mega-forest fire SE of Ely. For better or worse my son actually used his cell phone from the top of the tower to call his wife in Des Moines to wish her happy birthday.

Climb to the top of the island southern end of Burke Lake and look north. Wow!

Portage from Fern to Oliphant has some interesting views if you want a gorge in the picture.

As far as that long view from on high, I think my most memorable is from around middle of the Yum Yum portage. We stopped for lunch and all sat on that rock overlooking the valley below. Very nice view.
