quote OldFingers57: "My wife and I had planned to do the B Chain loop this year around Labor Day but had to cancel as she got injured in a fall 4 days prior to us leaving for the trip. So we are planning on doing it next year. Which way did you go? I was also curious how the portages were especially the Oliphant-Fern one? We had planned on going from the B lakes to Fern and then Oliphant. "

Fern to Oliphant will get your heart rate up. Sometimes you're by the water, sometimes you're on the ridge....lotsa up downs. Beautiful area though and there are walleyes.

My wife and I had come from Russell, so we went east across Oliphant into Fern and the B-chain. Going that way is against the flow and therefore I suspect most of the portaging under load was uphill...at least it seemed. Plus, I had to wade and pull my canoe upstream against a couple of Rapids in that area, which would have been a lot easier going the other way. The portage from Oliphant to Fern is listed as a full mile, and I tend to believe it...very beautiful though, if there ever was such thing as a beautiful portage.

There are walleye, smallmouth and lake trout in Oliphant. Try fishing the Pickerel River between Oliphant and Pickerel/Deux Rivieres for walleye and smallies.

Thinblueline: PM me in 2016 if/when plans are finalized. I can share some notes from our September 2015 trip. --Goose

I came through the B-Chain (Bisk, Beg, Bud) for the first time late this past September with my wife. Lovely area, but I never stopped to fish it. Next September I'm going back and I'd like to show a buddy a good time fishing there if possible. Does anybody know much about the fishing in that area, and particularly, is there much good walleye fishing through there, as we'd really like to have a few walleye meals. I guess I should add Fern Lake as well, since that is kind of part of the chain. In addition to any information on walleye fishing, can anyone recommend any decent campsites through the chain, and Fern? Thanks a lot!

Several good camps along the B Chain. We caught many walleyes below the falls. Great camp between Beg and Bud on an island near a waterfall.
