Hi,

We are planning a trip from Batchewaug to Kawnipi in early June. It looks like there are a few routes to take (I want to depart from Nym Lake) and I would like to get suggestions from anyone who has traveled these routes and what route they would recommend:

Route 1. Batchewaug,Jesse,Walter,Lonely, Sturgeon, Russell, Chatterton, Keats, Shelly, Kawnipi

Route 2. Batchewaug east through Pickerel Narrows, Dore, Twin Lakes, Sturgeon, Russell,Chatterton, Keats, Shelly, Kawnipi

Thanks

I've gone both routes to as far as Chatterton and Split Rock Falls. What are you looking for in the way of info.

Going Route #1 you will have more portages and they are a bit more difficult and muddier than Route #2's portages. As for the lakes they are all great looking. You could come in to Kawnipi via Route 1 and come out via Route 2. That way you get to see a lot more lakes and scenery.
If you want some ideas of campsite suggestions we stayed on Maria, Lonely, Russell, Dore and Batchewaug. Let me know and I can tell you what campsites we stayed at and other nice ones in those lakes.

I would give you same answers I did in other thread when you were going to Chatterton. You may need to figure out where you are going.

Thanks Oldfingers57

Based on your reply, I will likely travel down route 1 and return using route 2.

Any help you can provide regarding nice campsites along any or all of the lakes previously mentioned would be helpful.

Thanks again

Depending on how many nights you have planned, another option is to head from Batch through Dore to Kawnipi via Russell/Chatterton. For unknown reasons, whenever I go the opposite way, that uphill portage along the Deux Rivieres from Twin to Dore just kills me every time. Once you get to Kawnipi, you could return by heading through Heronshaw to Baird and then to Sturgeon via Cutty Creek and up through Fred/Sturgeon/Lonely etc back to Batch. Cutty Creek from Baird to Camel is a lightly traveled gem.
