posted this a long time ago , kind of reposting , doing a trip this opener and this is on the menu ::: bring in whole potato's , onion preferably vandillas #1bacon , dice slice everything up , as must triple wrap in reynolds HD foil , because you'll need to flip it often for about 3-4 hours on the grate. we call it ranch potato's and usually do it with steaks later in the trip , and , it is spectacular !

Thanks Shock. Reminded me of Boy Scout Pot Luck. (the foil). Had tried many variations like Savage Voyager; but not with bacon. I made yours last night. Good! I love bacon. oth

quote Savage Voyageur: "I make a similar thing without the bacon. It's potatos, carrots, onion. I but it on a good set of coals or a firegrate. I cook the about 30-45 min. I suppose it depends on the fire, but never at the 3-4 hour range. " its has raw bacon that needs to cook and melt the grease into the potato's , it takes time to do it right(i dont put it directly on the coals). needs to be flipped often or the bacon just burns to the foil and some of that is good, but just alittle ;)

I think I'd cook the bacon separately to get it crispy, then put it and the grease in the foil with the veg and cook it less time.... but man, that sounds good. Like, good enough to make at home.
