Amarillojim: I made this up tonight for my daughter using regular minute rice, freeze dried refried beans that I bought on Amazon, and the tomato chicken bouillon. It's a hit!! It would be easy to make it too salty, however.

My "recipe" is:
1/2 cup minute rice
1/3 cup freeze dried refried beans (could increase to 1/2 cup)
1/2 tsp. Chicken tomato bouillon
1 cup boiling water

Pack rice, beans, and seasoning in a Glad brand quart size freezer bag. In camp, add the boiling water, stir, and let sit in a cozy for 15 minutes. Eat.

(This was borderline too salty. I think I will use a generous 1/4 tsp of bouillon next time)

(1 tsp of this bouillon has 870 mg salt)

Watch the salt on this one. I've had to force feed myself some pretty awful stuff for using this and adding salt.

Also, you might be tempted to use this to make a mock bloody mary. Another unfortunate idea...

Knorr/Lipton makes Mexican & Spanish style rice. Both are okay, need a little more zip for me. Done in 7 minutes or so. Walmart has them & most grocery stores.

Is there an instant rice that is like the rice you'd get at a Mexican restaurant?

I see there is Uncle Ben's Ready Rice, but that seems to be a heat and eat product, and thus, heavy.

I don't know of any instant spanish rice... but we have created our own.

We dehydrate rice and canned spicy diced tomatoes separately and then we rehydrate them together in camp. It's not exactly spanish rice but it sure tastes good in our chicken soft tacos.
