I really like taking the ingredients, and making in camp. I used my Dutch Oven for years, but have gone to my Jello-mold-oven in recent years to cut back on weight.(age is catching up)

What a great idea! I have made several things in my Jello-mold oven, but never thought of apple crisp. That would be easy and fun. And Spartan1 loves apple crisp.

I make a simple apple crisp by rehydrating dried apples, topping with crushed granola bars and baking in your oven of choice. Tastes pretty good in the BW.

Have any of you ever tried dehydrating apple crisp? Got to thinking about it tonight and think I’ll give it a go and see how it turns out. May be something for a special dessert one night.

You can definitely try it and let us know how it goes.
Personally I would be tempted to take dehydrated apple slices, sugar, and spices along with the dry ingredients for the crisp topping and assemble and cook it in camp. add boiling water to the apple mixture and let sit until rehydrated and then add the topping and bake in a reflector oven or outback oven or however you do it.
Good luck!!

quote eagle93: "T. Marone's cookbook has a recipe using dried apples. It is in the dessert section above."
And it is make in a pan, no need to bake. If I recall correctly. I made the recipe last year but never made it as we went home a day early.

Well I made up a batch of apple crisp and ran half of it through the dehydrator. Think I should have sliced my apples thinner as it took almost two days to get it all to dry up good. Sliced them into chunks rather than thin slices. I made it per my wife’s recipe but used Splenda instead of sugar as I have to watch my sugar intake. I put some in a bowl and poured boiling water over it and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Tasted real good but think this method may work best for my solo instead of our group trip. The Sherpa sat and ate it just as was and said he really liked it that way. Said it was like apple granola.
Think for the May trip think I’ll slice the apples and dehydrate them and make it in the GSI Dutch oven.

Ended up just dehydrating the apples like I said in my last post and mixing all the rest of the fixings up at home and put in a ziplock.
It was very good and the boys ate it right down to nothing.

@Serenity Seeker I have done exactly as you suggested and it works out well!
