In a large mixing bowl is one package of dried banana, one package of dried pineapple, one package of dried apricots, one-half package of papaya, one small can of mixed nuts, one-half bag of walnuts, and a cup of pecans, one-half bag of each of the M&M's... I then mix and put into gallon bags, or quart bags as needed. Last year, 4 people, two men and two women ate 4 gallon bags in 5 days... What do you put into yours????? Bruce |

Just kidding, I love that stuff too. The "blend" you make sounds good.... I go with dry roasted peanuts, (or mixed nuts), raisins--home dried, plain M&Ms, and maybe some other dried fruit....but not too much, as dried fruit can do a number on some people...HA Woodpecker |

BTW - I, too, really like the Walmart/Sam's Club Tropical Mix. I'll take a lot of that. Then I'll either buy their regular Trail Mix or make my own. My own always is different, though always contains M&Ms, almonds, cashews, and garlic sesame sticks; Sometimes has Shelled Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Granola (or some kind of cereal), Raisins, and other stuff. |

the basic stuff was made with this and he changed out a stuff and added other stuff. If they were too sticky he rolled them in different stuff like ground nuts, and coconuts. 3 cups whole-grain cereal (e.g., puffed wheat or Kashi type) 1/2 cup chopped nuts or seeds (or a combination) 1/2 (or up to 3/4) cup chopped dried fruit (one fruit, or a combination) 3 tablespoons ground flaxseed 1/3 cup creamy nut or seed butter (e.g. peanut, cashew, almond, soy; natural style is fine) 1/2 cup honey (or brown rice syrup, light molasses, sorghum, or maple syrup) Roll into balls and coat as needed for taste. While they haven't replaced gorp in our group we include these a couple of times a years for something different. |

You're ablsolutely right. Everything is better in the BWCA. It is sort of my "office space" dream to just do up there as much as possible. Just relax and explore the entire wilderness. Maybe write my own book like Beymer's. Except I would mix it up a little (his are pretty dry and don't have nearly enough detail). I really envy the people who are outfitters up there. Voyager north, maybe you could answer me on this. Can you go out every week or two, or are you too busy? If you can, you are really living the life. |

What do people use for gorp. I remember having this when I went to the boundary waters when I would go with camp in the summer. i remember peanut butter and chocolate of some sort but that is about it. Would love some good ideas though. |

1 box of Granola, can of honey roasted peanuts, box of raisins, large bag of chocolate chips, large bag of plain M&M's, some dried fruit like cranberries, and sometimes cashews. This usually makes about 1 1/2 ziplock bags (gal size). This has never lasted more than 3 days in the BWCAW. I have to hide it someplace in the car or the boys get into it on the trip coming up. |

For the BWCA Great grab and go snack for canoeing, hiking and biking. This recipe is my personal favorite. "There are many like it but this one is mine" - FMJ 12oz. (3/4 lb.) Dried Fruit Mix (Fleet Farm) 1 lb. (16 oz.) Yogurt covered Raisins 1 lb. (16 oz.) Peanuts 1 lb. (16 oz.) Butterscotch Chips 20 oz. (1.25 lb.) bag of Chocolate M&M's Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, use 1/2 c. measuring cup to scoop into snack size bags. This should yield approximately 24 grab bags. Enjoy! |

quote MeatHunter: "I simply reach down behind the cushions on the couch and grab handfuls of whats down there. Popcorn, skittles, cereal, M&M's, ect. Be sure to remove any legos or coins from the mix as they are hard on the teeth." Are you living in my house? Ah, probably not, you didn't mention any clothing or remote devices in your list. Fun-ny! |
