I buy one of those #10 cans of Freeze Dried chicken from Mountain House and open it and divide up into smaller servings and vac seal them.

Foil pouch chicken dehydrates better than anything I've ever tried as far as meat products go, followed by ground venison.

Wish the chicken came in the small packets still, like tuna does. I guess we're too small of market.

quote hooky: "If you're going to dehydrate it anyway, just buy some chicken breasts next time they're on sale. Boil and finely shred them, then dehydrate." That works too Instead of boiling I roast boneless chicken thighs and then shred and cut into smaller pieces(nothing bigger then 1/4" x 1/4") When I bring them to life I add a bit of "powdered chicken stock" or my new favorite is "Instant chicken Gravy" before adding the boiling water. If you're going to add water why not bring a little extra flavor to the party Besides everything is better with gravy.....lol

I was wondering if you took a pack of the foil packed chicken, opened it up and divided it in half then vacuum sealed the two packs would they need to be kept cold or would they be like the original package and need no refrigeration? A half of a foil pouch chicken mixed in with a half a package of Knorrs Garlic Noodles sounds like a pretty good meal for this falls solo trips. FRED

I wish it worked that way. The process is like the canning process in that once the pouch is opened, you can't just reseal it and store it again.
I do share your pain in trying to figure out how to "split" the larger chicken foil packages for single meals. My answer has been to dehydrate the chicken and split that into seperate vac bags with half a Knorrs meal. I've even created sort of MREs by placing a single serving of chicken into a seperate vac bag and then adding that to a larger vac bag with the half of the Knorrs. My thought was to add boiling water to the chicken and give it a head start before adding the noodles so the final meal didn't have "mushy noodles.
