I always bring a couple of onions.

I like to peel the onion, wrap in foil, then set on the fire grate.

When you're done cooking your meal, take it off and enjoy.

Well - just put a couple of pounds of 96% lean ground beef in the dehydrator. Mostly vegetables after the beef - but some pizza sauce as well.

Grilling as in a fry pan with a little butter.

If rehydrated first...probably.

This is the week for us to fire up the dehydrator. This thread was good motivation.

Just curios, but can you rehydrate the flakes and grill them?

I approve of your dehydrator choice, Bill! I've got the same one & it is a workhorse. I picked up extra fruit leather trays for it last fall when REI was clearancing out accessories for the Open Country variant of this model.

Made a batch of jerky the other day, it turned out great after 5 hours at 160.

24 ounces becomes 2 ounces. Mushrooms, green peppers, ground beef, apples, and pineapple to go. Will try to weigh all before and after.

With onions I just go and buy the onion flakes at the store. Less work and smell.

I also buy my dried onions, but understand the satisfaction of producing your own with full control of the type and quality!

Last week I did ground beef and retried beans and Twins87 dropped off experimental batches of corned beef hash and pepperoni that she did for me in her dehydrator.

Today I started 3 trays of canned chicken, 1 tray of leftover baked beans with canned pulled pork, 1 tray of leftover beef stew, and 1tray of leftover herbed rice/quinoa blend.

Ok, so you got me excited to get dehydrator going. Have Morel Mushrooms, sweet corn and onions drying for round one. Trip begins June 9th so I will keep working for the next few weeks. Thanks for the kick in the pants.

I just have apples to go (plus packing) and we head north early this coming Saturday.

I just did 6 zucchini and 6 summer squash yesterday in the dehydrator. I've done red, yellow, and orange bell peppers, granny smith apples with cinnamon, strawberries, kiwi, mushrooms, celery, sausage, & ground beef.

Those 24 ounces of mushrooms are just about 10% or 2 1/2 ounces.

Just spread a pound can of refried beans and almost that much pizza sauce on the fruit roll-up trays. Hopefully that won't take more than overnight and I can start pineapple tomorrow. Not sure how to measure that - peeled or unpeeled. Two red peppers whole are 1 pound 2 ounces Together) and the pineapple is more than my two pound capacity scale - maybe 3 or 3 1/2? I'll work on that.

Onion flakes are pretty small to be grilling, even if you rehydrated them.

These fruit cake cookies are great on a cool morning with hot coffee and some sea smoke over a glassy lake.

The 16 ounce can of refried beans weighs 4 ounces and the 10 ounces of pizza sauce - 2 pizzas worth - just 2 ounces.

35 ounces of ground beef became 8 ounces. Just sliced and put 1 1/2 pounds of mushrooms in dehydrator. I'm guessing they'll weigh in the 15 to 20% range.

Fruit cake cookies to bake this weekend - and will probably do the pineapple, and maybe the pizza sauce in dehydrator. Leaves peppers, refried beans, an apples I think.

I was thinking you were wanting to grill them like on a grill or in one of the wok type baskets or trays you use on a grill. When I grill onions at home I leave them in fairly large pieces and grill them along with zucchini, summer squash and mushrooms plus EVOO and salt and pepper. I also add in some bell peppers too.
