I took each of my daughters on their 1st daddy/daughter trip when they were 5 so this brought back many awesome memories. They are now 13 and 11 and each year my get away to the bwca with one of them is my favorite time of the year.

maybe she could write a trip report of her favorite trip memories.

Nice report, and your daughters name is beautiful, don't think I ever heard that name before.

Kids that get introduced to the BWCA and/or woodsy camping trips are lucky, lucky ones.

Thanks Boonie! It went just about as smoothly as it could have. Kind of makes me wish we would have pushed deeper towards Clearwater or somewhere in the vicinity, but it may not have gone as well if we added too many portages. Thanks for reading!

I couldn’t agree more. I’m finding it difficult to find other like-minded parents with kids similar in age to mine. Funny story, my son was at a friends house playing with 3 other kids and the topic of the BWCA came up (I’m sure my kid brought it up)...one of the kids said, “never heard of that”. My son said, “WHAT??!!!...wait, this is good, my dad doesn’t want everyone knowing how awesome it is.” Funny, and it proves my kids actually listen to me sometimes...

Thanks LT, I have my wife to credit with that one. Funny story...I have three kids, all with Scottish names, though neither my wife or I have any Scottish blood. Douglas, Isla and Lachlyn. All three names are associated with water, totally by accident. Douglas means “river”, Isla means “island” (duh) and Lachlyn means “from the land of lakes”. I guess we’re just Minnesotan to the core.

Wow that’s an amazing trip! Brings back fond memories of my first daddy daughter trip in 2012. That’s amazing how she loves fishing and has the patience for it. I know I wasn’t that patient at 11 when I went for the 1st time. Which is why I mostly prefer trolling.

Sounds like Isla got a great start in the BWCA. Here's hoping for a lifetime of great adventures for her.
