WOW! Great report and pics.

My son and I always say we're going to make it to the east end but never do because we can't make it past the good fishing on the west end. We came out on the 16th this month.

What was the traffic like at that end? Did you have to share your fishing areas with others? Last year we were mentioning where we would like to camp and every time I pointed to a different campsite
around Boundary Point Janice said, "probably taken". So we just stayed on the west end.

Also is there enough wind protection in the area to prevent you from being shore bound on windy days?

Oh, next time I wouldn't be concerned about fishing the bottom for lake trout...they usually suspend some where in the water column and will travel a long way up to grab a lure.

Regarding the water levels....hopefully it's just temporary...I believe many species got off a successful spawn this year evident of the gazillions of fry in the shallows. Last couple years the way the weather was it was questionable at best. Water levels were very low in 2007 almost as low as this year...then 2008 it was probably flirting with record high water levels...even last year was relatively high also so it runs in cycles like everything else.

Thanks in advance...

Gunflinter,

Here is my simple advice for fishing success - spend as much time on the water as you can (anytime of day) throwing a lure that you know works and in which you have confidence.

Wallidave,

Glad you made it out with your son this year, although I think the weather may have been more questionable during your week.

To answer your question, it was a bit crowded (for Quetico) - we had 3 parties camping within a mile of our camp. But I never felt that I was "sharing" fishing areas with anyone. There are plenty of spots to visit.

We were in the Boundary Point area proper, which has enough protection from the wind. If you travel further east in the lake, shelter from the wind becomes more of a problem.

Give the area a try next year - especially at the fishing spot coordinates that I posted in my report.

Nice Fish! (plural) Glad to hear that both of the big ones were released to fight another day. While camping in Northern Wis. a few weeks back, a guy was parading around showing off his 38 inch Muskie, and I just wanted to smack him.
