While I have seen bears in the BW I have yet to have one mess with my camp. Perhaps I am of the fortunate few on that reguard. |

We were on Lake One Sept. 27-29. The wind never let up that weekend either. I thought about people out on the big water and wondered if they were wind bound or "going for it". That fish on a stick looks really good. Great idea for next years Minnesota State Fair! Thanks for the great report! I hope your lens is OK. |

The bears around Robbins Island have been a menace for years. Twenty years ago I was camped on a point just across from the island. I was tired, so I left the food pack near my tent with pots on top to warn me if a bear meddled. My brother was sleeping in the tent with me, and sometime in the middle of the night he elbowed me in the ribs and said the pots fell off the pack. I asked him when and he said about 15 minutes ago. So, I was way too late. The bear dragged the pack up a hill where we found it flattened the next morning, with nothing left in the pack. Fortunately, that night we caught lots of fish in Ottertrack Lake and had a good supper. We paddled in the next day. Since that time I have devised a way to hang food packs between two trees by means of ropes and pulleys. This method always stumps them. |
