Must be something about bald eagles not being so shy in the fall? Had one dive bomb us a couple of times on Little Trout lake this past September. ('Course we were draggin a lake trout around) Kinda ironic that you would see more people in October:) Sounded like a nice getaway none-the-less. TB |

It's amazing you had 80 degrees in October. We had 32 in early September, never got close to 80. I guess the water was way to cold for a swim when you got to Bootleg though? |

Thanks for writing up a trip report. Thanks Bogs for getting me in at the last moment for what turned out to be a great trip for me. It's the little things that made this trip memorable for me. Ken, thanks for your hard work at firewood gathering. Your great tasting Bannock and companionship. Jim, thank you for looking out for me on the portages and cooking up some great food and companionship. Steve, thanks for a great ride up with all your experiences and information on the B-dub. Also, thanks for your companionship. Watch out for those pesky otters, I heard they're ferocious beasts that eat canoeists. Greg |

I'm sure I forgot to mention many things. I was going by my scribbled notes and my memory isn't what it used to be. :) |

The water was cold but it didn't stop Greg from Swimming on day 2 when it was still warm. This was the warmest October trip I have ever taken. I doubt it ever got below 35 at night and the days were above 60 the entire time with that first day being the warmest. I definitely had more clothes and a warmer sleeping bag then I required. It was great to have Greg along. He fit it well with the group of misfits that we are. :-) Jim (with help from his wife Rachel) once again took care of feeding us well. Ken did some baking as always. I made the pancakes with real maple syrup and supplied some Maker's Mark. Greg shared his hot dogs including buns!!!. First time I ever had a hot dog in the BWCAW. I have to admit it was pretty tasty. Happy Hour occured every evening along with a nightcap before sack time. It was a great relaxing few days. Ken forgot to mention that he had to stop and stash his hang glider, and I had to stash my bicycle back in the woods once we saw the sign entering the BWCAW. We retrieved them both on the way out. I am not sure he missed it that much. I had a feeling the bike was illegal, but we were shocked we couldn't bring the hang glider. |

Don't anybody make plans for those bootleg campsites the first week of august. We're hoping the spend a whole day fishing there. Given the five of us caught about 70-100 fish in a couple of hours last year, mostly bass, though a few pike, the biggest being 30". |

quote You still remember what your memory used to be like? ;). I can't even remember that :). Or, as my brother says, "the older I get, the better I was." I enjoyed the trip report as I've been intrigued by that entry for a while, but was uncertain how passable it would be in late Sept. Do you have any pictures? Did the Visions of Sin get any air time on Pirate Radio? Just saw the movie last night and it brought back a lot of old memories. |

And your mind is the second thing to go. I forgot what the first thing was. |

quote bailer: "The big mink may not have been a mink." It was a mink. I wasn't a pine marten if that is what you're thinking. I've seen many pine martens. I've seen many minks, too. It was WAY bigger than any weasel. I'm 95% sure it was a big mink. |

Thanks for the photos Bannock. I may have to go that way sometime - I enjoy river paddling. |
