ckb, it seemed a lot hotter when it was, found out it was only in the low 80s, but it seemed a lot warmer! Not sure why. But since you're always 'exercising', i.e. paddlig or portaging or something, when it gets that warm it stinks. But I'm purebred Minnesotan, too.
The fish were all caught in 10' of water or less, tried to keep it simple for the kids. Mostly spoons, spinnerbaits, & jig/plastics. No live bait. We don't bring it unless we're going to try hard for walleye.
Email me if you want anything else, it was a blast, can't wait to go again this summer with them!

Nice report - Love how the girls just went with it all and ended up having a blast! Look forward to hearing about 2012 adventure too!

Great report, it sounds like a blast. I have my son going with me that very same way this summer, same time of the year too. Couple of rookie questions:
How hot was hot? I'm from St. Louis, so 85-90 is no big deal for me, but 100 degrees is awful. Are the skeeters not usually that bad in July? Sounded like they might have been worse than normal. Tell me a little more about the fishing too. Hitting pike and smallies down deep in the warmer water? Lures or bait - spoons, spinners, or leeches?
Thanks for the report. I can't wait to go there.

Great trip report. I began taking my two daughters when they were 5 and 7. This summer my 24 year old, who is just finishing her masters degree asked if she and I could do one more week long BWCA trip before she begins her career and won't be able to do one for a while. So Yep, it definietly pays off to get them in there early (and anywhere outdoors, to camp, fish, hike, etc.) as soon as you can.

quote PaddleAway: "ckb, it seemed a lot hotter when it was, found out it was only in the low 80s, but it seemed a lot warmer! "
I was hoping you would say 80's. I can handle that, although I appreciate the point about how it gets hot when you're working up a sweat.
Thanks for the info. I was excited to see a report that was from basically the same exact time and same exact place that we plan to head this year. I can't wait
