NotLight- Yes, I got the Canada suggestion from Spartan2, who pointed out that it wasn't much farther - maybe 50 miles - for me to return from Grand Marais by way of Canada than to backtrack to Duluth and go across MI's U.P. YMMV :). The JetBoil is quite efficient. There are other similar ones now. It also is very light and compact. A small canister fits inside the pot with the burner and stand. I discovered very quickly that it boils the ~12 oz. of water I use so quickly that I must have everything ready before I light it; otherwise it's burning up unnecessary fuel while I get things ready ;). I don't bring my water for coffee to a full boil, which saves a little. I should also point out that Steve used a Coleman white gas stove and was surprised at how little fuel he used by just bringing the water to a boil and rehydrating the meals in a cozy. |
