My friend and I took a couple kayaks up to Malberg in late April of '12. Good trip! We double-portaged.

Did you use a yoke to portage your yaks. My system worked well but I am wondering if some type of yoke would be better.

yes, we used adjustable clamp-on yokes from Spring Creek. I also have a home-made yoke, but the Spring Creek ones work well. Been using them for almost 10 yrs now!

Sept of 12 I did a solo yak trip to Malberg. Took an emotion edge that weighs in at 38 lbs. Strapped my back to the rear deck with bungee chords. Had a great trip and caught a lot of eyes, pike and bass. Every portage was one trip. Rested the yak on top of my pack and the seat set on my head. Would like to figure a better way to portage but this system worked well. All of the posts that I read said don't take a yak but I would have to respectfully disagree as I had an excellent trip and intend to go again next year. I will try to post a pic of the set up I used.

Not all the posts push away from the kayak. My trip was a full success and while I am tempted to look into a solo canoe, kayaking is my preferred transportation on water. See other posts for other thoughts. Glad you had a good trip and to see activity on this private forum.
