Yup, we decided to go ahead and register them here in Iowa even though we don't have to.


Can't wait to bring them up North!

Well, I (we) have done it. We just bought 2 intro kayaks to play with while out "camping" with the travel trailer. (why do I feel like I just broke a rule!)

They are 10 feet 4 inches long. And will be used in Iowa, SD., Neb., and Minn. for sure. It looks like the only state that requires registration on these would be Minn. (over 10 feet) from what I read.

We are probably go to register them just to be on the cautious side.

Any words of wisdom from experienced kayakers on registration? Keep the registration with the kayak?

If you are registering them in mn. The proof of registration is a sticker that I stick inside the cockpit area so it's always with me. Not sure what the other states mentioned provide for the registration proof. I know it's not that expensive to register plus it goes out 3 years. Congrats on your purchase!

While Iowa does not require paddle craft less than 13 feet to register, I did register my 12'10" Delta as I want a state record in case of theft and because I take it to states where registration is required. I keep the registration certificates in my vehicle and then in the deck bag when paddling.
Once registered you will be required to put the decal on your hull along with the assigned numbers in 3" lettering. The county recorder will explain all this at the time of registration.

Congrats! Ours our unregistered at the moment, only use them in IA and WI so far.
