quote nctry: "So, after scrolling around on your new maps, did it look like it was pretty detailed? Moreso than say a fisher map?" I wouldn't say necessarily more so than a Fisher, but it is pretty detailed. All portages and campsites are marked, topo indicated, some lake depths and there is a little fish logo you can hover over that will then tell you what species are in the waters. Of course, I am not sure how accurate that feature is, but it's still pretty cool! The next time you're in the cities give me a call and you can load the maps to your device if you'd like. Otherwise, I do have 5 downloads still available, so I think I can load the maps onto a chip and then send it to you. Let me know if you're interested. |

I used Garmin's MapInstall to load the maps onto my 62s, and according to MapInstall, the installation was successful. How do I know if the maps are actually on my GPS? Do I need to be in the BWCA before I'll konw if the map is installed? Stupid questions from a rookie! |

quote Sylbill: "I recently purchased the Red Pine Maps to go along with my new Garmin 62s (partially purchased with my REI dividend). It looks like it is pretty good for the BWCA, but I am a little disappointed in the Quetico part. It does not show any of the campsites that are on the McKenzie maps, but more importantly, it is missing some portages. For example, the portage between Beaverhouse and Quetico Lakes is not there. Fortunately I have plenty of time to add the campsites and portages into my GPS. " I hadn't even looked at the Quetico area; thanks for the info. I will look at that area today. |

MENU->Setup Map->ENTER->Select Map->ENTER You should be able to scroll up or down until you see: Enabled - Red Pine whateverthemapisnamed If not enabled: ENTER-> Enable QUIT, QUIT to get back out to map To see features on a map not in your immediate area: Use SCROLL ARROWS on center pad in direction of map (Pressing OUT multiple times allows scrolling to quickly cover long distances) Press IN and use SCROLL ARROWS to see details on your installed map. |

quote schweady: "To ensure that a map is installed on a 62s: Thanks, Schweady! Next question: When I loaded the Red Pine Map, the MN Topo map I had installed earlier was gone. I think I recall reading somewhere that I when I add new non-factory maps I need to always add the ones I did before or they will be lost. My question is how do I do this? |
