I own no Garmin maps on chips so do not know.
I do have other chip based maps, never remove them during updates. Updates apply to operating system and maps installed from Garmin, internal memory.

My Garmin Montana is 3 years old now. I was wondering if it needs a operating software update? Should I be doing this on a regular basis or don't worry about it. Thanks

Garmin Express Free and easy.
I use it regularly, biggest benefit is with automotive units street map updates.

I have a city nav chip for North America and a city nav chip for Europe. Do I need to do 2 updates with each chip installed or just one time with no chips installed? Thanks
