Maybe one of the portage landings along the river could be used in an emergency, but the part I've seen (disclaimer - I've not yet been north of Sunday Lake) is as described by MidwestFirecraft.
The one site on Sunday can, I think, accommodate two hammocks, but one will need a long suspension on one end and the second will be emphatically over a rocky spot. Though perhaps I'm just not creative enough! :-)

I was wondering how many camp in PMAs where people don't usually camp. I'm headed into Sundial towards the end of Aug . We have several nights reserved in Zone 4. (Beartrap River and Sunday lake). Has anyone camped in other places along the river and had fishing success? IE; on the downstream side of the portage where the rapids empty into a pool. Are there other viable campsites other than the well established one on Sunday Lake? All we really need is a couple of hammock hangs and a clearing. We certainly will practice a LNT in any place we stop. The thought of camping wherever when we fell like stopping sounds like a good experience. Has anybody camped in other parts of Sundial zone 4? Ever catch any fish out of the Beartrap river? Seen moose or other wildlife in late evening or early morning? We're certainly camping at Sunday Lake at least one night. But would like to be open to other camping in the zone.
Thanks

I have not stayed anywhere other than what looked like establish places in the Sundial PMA. I'm always looing though. I found a few places that would be suitable for a hammock, though not much camp life, or certainly not more than 2 people. I see two big issues with finding a place along the Beartrap. 1st is it goes from marsh swamp grass to thick alder/birch shrubs. From there dense black spruce and birch don't make for any clearings that I have seen, especially for any kind of camp. 2nd any high ground is usually along the portage. For a PMA the Beartrap is a highly used waterway. It could be done, but I don't think it would be enjoyable. Can't comment on the fishing in the Beartrap.

You are correct about Zone five. Thank you. I typed the wrong zone. We have our reservation in zone 5. But I've heard good things about Zone 4 and Sterling Lake.
