Thanks for the positive comments on the machine. It might be a good Idea to give a breakdown on the cost of the parts I used on the upgrade so If someone else runs across an old serviceable machine they can have an Idea what it would cost to upgrade it. Having the Machine serviced, broken and missing parts replaced, $125 Servo motor, $110 K leg stand, $75 Maple top, $85 I'm lucky to live close enough to an Industrial sewing machine shop that I could drive there to drop off and pick up parts without having to pay shipping. The downside is that I'm a long way from the Boundary waters to go tripping. So roughly $400 for a heavy duty sewing machine that will make or repair just about any outdoor gear project I'll need and I'm sure will be passed on to the next generation as well. |

It's a Singer 111 from around 1940, that was used during WW2. The guy that used the machine during the war bought it after the war was over and used it at his own shop. My dad bought it from him many years ago and was given to me last fall. After I had it serviced I bought a new stand and a servo motor. The clutch motor that was on it was too hard to control the speed for me. Now I can get it to chug along nice and slow. I glued up some maple strips and had them planed down to make the top. I like the way it turned out, now I need to learn how to sew. |
