I'm thinking about a pocket rocket to replace my jetboil. I'm hoping to shave a few ounces of weight for backpacking and solo tripping. I will keep your setup in mind when/if I make the transition. |

Beavers: "I know it's a really old thread but I figured I'd post the pocket rocket windscreen idea I came up with a while ago incase others are looking for ideas. Nothing fancy...just some wire hooks and aluminum roof flashing. It's set flush with the pot supports so you can use a larger diameter pot. The small notch at the bottom is to access the flame control. I don't use the pocket rocket much anymore but the windscreen was pretty effective. There’s a good chance I was inspired by and studied your build! Have you guys ever used a mulder strip for the pocket rocket in the cold? I was thinking of making one- still see regular use of the pocket rocket! |

I've used mine down 30 degrees or so and it seemed to work ok. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to the cold. If it's too cold for the pocket rocket it's too cold for me as well! ;) I quit using my PR when I got my snow peak with the built in ignitor. I never have come up with a decent windscreen for it though. |

This year, I wanted to adapt the cookset to use with an MSR pocket rocket stove. I thought I would need to make removable legs to get the windscreen up to the level of the much taller canister stove, but ended up finding a much more elegant and simple solution: Cutting three small slots in the windscreen allows it to simply be hung right on the legs of the stove. It attaches/removes easily and works quite well. It is still compatible with the alcohol stove AND, it technically made the windscreen a teensy bit lighter :) |
