Ingredients Chopped steak - about 1-2 lbs - get good steak, it makes a big difference. I use 1 package of Carne Picada from Aldi. Great quality steak, and it's inexpensive. SCORE! 1 large white onion - finely chopped (can substitute a red onion here) Montreal Steak Seasoning - funny how this McCormick's French wanna-be steak stuff works for Mexican steak street tacos - but it's stupidly fantastic. Toppings • minced cilantro • queso fresco crumble cheese • Valentina's hot sauce - regular or hot, go with what you prefer. I like love the flavor of Valentina's regular. If you like some other brand, go with it. • Good Soft corn tortillas - I prefer El Milagro soft White corn tortillas; they're much better than most restaurant soft corn tortillas. Method: Over medium heat in a large (#10) cast iron skillet, cook down the onion in a good drizzle of regular olive oil for a 2-3 minutes, add the steak, and start browning. Sprinkle liberally with Montreal steak seasoning - don't be too shy here, and let the fat render out. When the steak is cooked through, warm up the tortillas on a flat griddle or skillet. When the tortillas are warm, double a pair, load it with steak/onion mixture, top with queso fresco, cilantro, and drizzle with Valentina's hot sauce. Will post a pic, next time I make these. |
