For those that got their start in the BWCA / Quetico through the Charles L. Sommer's Canoe Base, here is a video filmed in 1969.

Cool. Sounds like Dave Moore doing the narration.

Takes me back to when I was a scout. I had to laugh at their canoe skills at the beginning of the trip. But, they certainly got better as the trip progressed...just like my first experience.

Some great old movies there. Thanks for sharing. Brings back memories of when I was a kid in Boy Scouts back in the 60s and 70s.

Here is another one. This one from the 80's I believe.

I could watch a million of these.

...someone should have given the Scouts a chance at earning their canoe strokes badge before entering the BWCA.

All of them films point back to a much different world and times. One to me was much simpler.

Interesting. Went on my first when i was "technically too young" to go back in '86. There should be a requirement, too strong, that the boys should hit at least two of the high adventure bases
Still remeber our "guide" but not his name. I hold that trip responsible for my yearning to return over and over again.

This is good stuff. I remember my camp days back in the 60's when I was first taught canoeing. Good times.
