I wish you the best! I too faced job loss at age 61, it was tough but I was able to get a "fill-in" job to make ends meet until SS. started. Hang in! It might be a chance to try something new, or go on a bunch of canoe trips. |

sad to here inspector. your good Sh!t. Met you a few times at wing nights. I'am probably a little young for this group, but I've always enjoyed/respected music much older than myself. Back in 2013 and 2015-16 I faced near certain job loss.Career ending. It never happened, but the following song really pumped me "Find my way Back" -- You too Inspector will find your way back. It also dispels many of the myths of their system created by some American groups. What we have in this country is nowhere close to what they have and shouldn't be compared to it. I was referring to what they have, not the extremely watered down version we have . " Thanks, I will read it. My experience is with the Canadian and UK system. Not from living there but from talking with professionals within the system. There is no free lunch. What you get for free, some else paid for. But I will read it. Thanks. |

On the insurance front: Take a look at Christian health sharing (If you are a Christian) We use Liberty Healthshare. They don't cover everything, especially procedures that are against Christian faith. It is not insurance and it is not for everybody. But it works for us. When Obamacare tagged me with a $2500.00 per month premium and a $6750 deductible with a $20K out of pocket, I had enough of the Affordable Health Care! That bill was an Oxymoron. I would have to pay over $33k before a saw a dime. Who can afford that?! I now pay $675 a month for three of us with a $1500 "deductible" . It takes some time to get reimbursed and it is not Insurance. Everyone shares the cost of members medical bills. This organization also gives guidance on how to negotiate your medical costs. My daughter was turned a $3800 CAT scan into a $380 dollar CAT Scan. 90% discount! Doesn't happen every time. My conclusion is that Healthcare providers charge whatever they can collect. Poor college student, gets 90%! I on the other hand, I usually get around 30%. I also like that my monthly amounts are actually shared with others that need help paying for outrageous medical bills. Universal Health care run by the government could never do it for this kind of cost. Not sure why people default to government is the answer? The other good thing that has happened on the Healthcare front is that all providers must publish all their rates including negotiated rates with Insurance companies. They are not all compliant yet, but it allows me to comparison shop. I would tell you who pushed this and made it happen, but not many on this site would believe it. Anyway, sorry I dove into the political issue, but I had to do it when someone responded with the Government is the answer. It will all work out...When you get nervous, just remember to keep your "head where your feet are". |

Fortunately, I will be getting my COBRA premiums paid through September. I just filled out the paperwork. That means 4 1/2 years until I need to sign up for Medicare. And at that time, even if I don’t have a high deductible plan, I can use the $17,500 in my HSA account without tax penalty. |

I am sorry about the job. I have been through that a few times. Being in the Tech field, I would sometimes wake to find out my skill set was obsolete. This happened to me in 2004 with 3 small kids. No work for over a year, down to my last dollar and a phone call arrived to save me. Sort of...The next year had us move from Cali to NOLA. Then that bitch Katrina came in... Anyway, my point isn't to talk about me, but to let you know that often change could be a blessing in disguise. Keep the faith. You most likely will come out the other side for the better. Music has always helped me. |

Thanks. I’m a little anxious because of my age but am better off than some. My house is paid for as well as my 5 year old car. I guess with the last Covid bill, the feds are paying Cobra premiums until September. It’s those health insurance premiums that make me nervous. I saw what mine is under Cobra and it is more than I ever paid for a house payment. (Which I always set up monthly for mortgage, insurance, and property taxes.) |
