Trip Introduction:
Quick trip into horse Lake

Report

I took a quick trip into Horse from Mudro to test my new solo cedar strip canoe. The water levels are a little high and the access from the parking lot was in the normal spot 5/13-5/15 with no extra pull outs before Mudro (Although still plenty of rocks to catch a canoe). The 3 portages from Mudro to Horse had no unexpected surprises.

I took the island site on the north end of the lake. While I was there I went to check out the foundations at the old horse camp on the north end and was presently surprised to find moose poop everywhere. Along with that there was young aspen broke off about 6 feet up all over meaning recent activity from moose. And the best part a tree about 6inches round rubbed up from what was probably a bull moose last year. Although I never saw one all the signs are there.

Unfortunately my boots completely fell apart on the last portage into Horse, I had to duct tape my feet in them to get out, so I cut my trip a day short but hopefully someone will be able to spot a moose!
